international women’s cricket :transgender athletes prohibited from participation

Transgender athletes prohibited from participating in international women’s cricket.

Transgender women who have been through male puberty have been barred from international women’s cricket under new regulations announced by the International Cricket Council (ICC) today.

Danielle McGahey, a transgender cricket player from Canada, became the first transgender cricket player to participate in an official international match in September.

Transgender participation has become a contentious issue as various sports attempt to strike a balance between inclusivity and fair competition; international governing bodies in cycling and athletics have also outlawed transgender competitors.

The International Cricket Council (ICC) board, meeting in Ahmedabad, India, announced new regulations on Tuesday that prohibit transgender athletes.
