Justice Hyeladzira Nganjiwa of a Federal High Court in Anambra on Friday awarded N102 million compensatory damages in favour of Ifeanyi Ejiofor the lawyer to the detained leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra, Nnamdi Kanu, for gross violation of his fundamental rights and cost of litigation.

The court also awarded him N5 million being the cost of his Toyota Camry car which was burnt by security agencies.

The IPOB lawyer had in a fundamental rights enforcement suit with No: FHC/AWK/CS/56/2021, dragged the government to court to challenge the invasion of his ancestral home in Oraifite, in the state on June 6, 2021, by security personnel during which his aide was killed.

The Nigeria Police Force; the Inspector General of Police; the State Security Service; the Director-General, State Security Service; the Nigerian Security And Civil Defence Corps; the Nigerian Army; the Chief of Army Staff and Chukwuka  Ofoegbu (a.k.a. Ijele Speaks) were joined as first– eighth defendants in the suit.

Delivering judgment, Justice Nganjiwa declared the brutal invasion by the agents of the 1st, 2nd, 3rd, 4th, 6th, 7th and 8th respondents as oppressive, and gross violation of the rights to life, dignity of human person, fair hearing, right to private and family life of the plaintiff.

He also declared as illegal, oppressive and unlawful, the taking away and subsequent burning of Ejiofor’s Toyota Car with registration number: YAB 60 CB together with the dead body of his domestic staff, Samuel Okoro, and other vital documents and valuables seized from his house by government agents.

Notorious banditry kingpin, Ada Aleru, who was recently named the Sarkin Fulani Yandoton Daji Emirate (the head of the Fulani in Yandoton Daji) in a chilling confession, said he does not kidnap people but kills them.

The coronation of Mr Aleru, who is the leading terrorist in Tsafe and Faskari axis of Zamfara and Katsina states, generated public outcry across the country.

The state government, subsequently, suspended the Emir of the town, Aliyu Marafa, who conferred the title on Mr Aleru, who is wanted in neighbouring Katsina State for mass killings.

The Katsina government placed a bounty of N5 million on information leading to the arrest of Mr Aleru, who is accused of killing 52 people in Kadisau, a community in Faskari Local Government in 2019.

In his first and only known interview with the media, Mr Aleru told the BBC that he is angry with Hausas and the Nigerian government.

In a documentary titled “The Bandit Warlords of Zamfara” billed to be aired 25 July 2022, Mr Aleru said while his men kidnap people, he is only interested in killing people.

“My men do that; I just go and kill them (people),” Mr Aleru said.

Bandits have kidnapped the former Director of Personnel Management (DPM) in Kontagora Local Government Area of Niger State, Alhaji Usman Abdullahi Malami.

The bandits also abducted a veterinary doctor with the Department of Veterinary Medicine in same LG, Musa Mohammed. 

According to Daily Trust report, the former DPM was kidnapped on Friday on his farm along Kontagora-Mariga Road alongside some labourers working with him while the veterinary doctor was reportedly abducted on Thursday morning while returning to Kontagora from surrounding villages where he had gone to vaccinate animals.

The bandits later called to inform the family that they were at a location in Katsina State and demanded N15 million ransom.

A TikTok sensation simply identified as Mimi, has died under strange circumstances.

According to multiple sources, she died on Monday, July 18. The sources report that Mimi suddenly fell ill and was rushed to the hospital. “Mimi’s death is a huge shock to us as she recently fell ill and was expected to recuperate in a few days.

She was rushed to the hospital by her boyfriend and we got hold of information
about his plan to use her for money rituals. So, we launched an SOS on WhatsApp for people to help but before they could get to the hospital, Mimi had passed on.

At the hospital, Mimi’s boyfriend was nowhere to be found and they had to take her corpse to her village. However, we don’t even know the name of Mimi’s boyfriend as she kept him a secret almost every time we asked her about him,” a source alleged.

Some unknown gunmen suspected to be kidnappers on Tuesday night, stormed Arthur Jarvis University, a private university located in Akpabuyo, Cross River State, and kidnapped a final year student of the institution, identified as Josephine.

GRASSROOT REPORTERS gathered that the gunmen shot sporadically, injuring many of the students and staff before whisking away the student.

Sources told GRASSROOT REPORTERS that the attackers numbering about ten, took advantage of the power outage in the school to launch the attack.

A reliable source told GRASSROOT REPORTERS that the student was kidnapped on her way back from the school’s canteen and the kidnappers stripped her naked before taking her away.

It was gathered that one other student was also kidnapped but she managed to escape. She was stabbed by the kidnappers and was rushed to the hospital for treatment.

Reacting to the incident, the Cross River State State Commissioner of Police, Aminu Alhassan said the Anti-Cultism, Anti-Kidnapping and Dragon Squads of the police has been deployed to the school and the community to comb neighbouring forest for rescue of kidnapped student.

A 23-year-old man, Godspower Adigheti, reportedly macheted his girlfriend to death at Ozoro, Isoko North Local Government Area, Delta State for destroying his iPhone 11 PRO MAX mobile phone.

It was gathered that the suspect and the deceased, Gift Oloku, had had an altercation, which resulted in a fight.

A source said: “She had gone out and when she returned home, the boyfriend demanded to know where she was coming from.

“In the process, a fight broke out and the girl destroyed the screen of his iPhone 11 Pro Max mobile phone. That was how he attacked her with a cutlass.”

The source, who craved anonymity, said until her death, the deceased cohabits with the suspect and had a baby girl for him.

The state Police Public Relations Officer, Mr Bright Edafe, who confirmed the incident in a statement, said: “On 16/7/2022, the DPO Ozoro division received a distress call that one Godspower Adigheti, 23 years, of Oramudu quarters inflicted machete cuts on his girlfriend, one Gift Oloku, 22 years.

“She was taken to the hospital where she was confirmed dead. Investigations revealed that a fight ensued between them over a disagreement.

“The suspect claimed that she damaged his iPhone 11 Pro Max phone while they were fighting, which angered him and he used a machete on her. The suspect is in custody and an investigation is ongoing.

The Inspector-General Of Police, Usman Baba, has ordered the probe of music star, Habeeb Okikiola, better known as Portable, over his alleged ties to One Million Boys, a notorious gang.

In a video, which went viral on Monday, Portable was heard saying he formed the gang and another notorious group known as Ajah Boys.

“Open your ears and hear me, Have you heard about Ajah Boys, One Million Boys, I’m their founder. Go and ask Sammy larry.”

The singer spoke Yoruba in the now-deleted video.

In a statement, Muyiwa Adejobi, Force Public Relations Officer, said the Lagos Commissioner of Police has been asked to investigate Portable.

“Sequel to the trending video of one Habeeb Okikiola aka Portable where he claimed to have formed the One-Million Boys cult group terrorising some parts of Lagos State, the IGP has ordered CP Lagos to investigate the indicting statement and take necessary legal action. This directive is premised on the continuous effort of the Nigeria Police Force to fish out pillars and sponsors of cult groups in order to decimate their activities and restore sanity to our society.”

Bandits kill 7-year-old boy in Abuja, abduct 10 residents

A seven year-old boy identified simply as Ayuba was killed when bandits attacked Paikon Basa community in Gurdi ward, Abaji Area Council of Abuja.

According to a resident, James Gwatana, who spoke to Daily Trust, the bandits wielding sophisticated weapons invaded the community on Friday night, July 15.

He said a couple were also hit by stray bullets during the attack.

“In fact, the entire Paiko community was terrified because of the sound of gunshots of the bandits. It was as a result of the sporadic shooting that a 7-year-old boy was killed,” he said.

He said the bandits abducted four residents and raided some shops where they carted away food stuffs.

The district head of Gulida, Abubakar Sadauna, who confirmed the incident to Daily Trust via telephone, said the couple who were shot had been taken to a private hospital for treatment in Gwagwalada.

“I later received information over the weekend that two among the four kidnapped victims, later escaped from the abductors den,”  he said.

He said the Yaba police division headquarters had been informed about the attack, adding that the police went to the scene and saw the corpse of the 7 year-old boy before it was buried

Borno State Ministry of Health has confirmed that there is an outbreak of monkey pox in the state.

The state Director of Public Health, Doctor Lawi Mshelia said on Monday that there are four suspected cases that were reported with three of the cases confirmed by the National Center for Disease Control (NCDC) after samples sent to the centre were returned positive.

Dr Lawi Mshelia further discloses that two of the cases were reported from the University of Maiduguri Teaching Hospital where they are currently receiving treatment while the other patient was reported from Biu in Southern Borno.

The director also revealed that one of the patients was discharged from the hospital about a week ago.

A transgender prisoner who got two fellow inmates pregnant at New Jersey’s only women’s prison has been moved to a men’s prison where he/she is being held in a vulnerable unit.

Demi Minor, who is serving a 30-year sentence for stabbing her former foster father to death, was moved from the Edna Mahan Correctional Facility to the Garden State Youth Correctional Facility. 

Minor complains that she was misgendered and abused by guards during the transfer and was even placed on suicide watch after she tried to hang herself while she was being transferred to GSCF(Pictured).

Two officers were killed during an ambush by gunmen in Anambra state, however, war weapons hidden by the suspected criminal elements were recovered by other officers.

Police spokesman in the state, Ikenga Tochukwu disclosed that criminal operatives in the state laid an ambush against a six-man police team and a civilian car tracker who were on a recovery operation.

This came after a Toyota Sienna Space Wagon vehicle was snatched at gun point.

According to Ikenga, the team of six police officers were on the trail of gunmen who had snatched a Toyota Sienna space wagon in Oye-Agu Abagana, before they ran into an ambush.

Another civilian, who was tracking the car alongside the police team, was also killed.
